KICKER MARKS
Tears /
Damage / Rips

Kicker marks, Tears, Damages and individual
pulled tufts along the perimeter and on stairs
can be caused by a Knee Kicker. When the carpet is set to be stretched in
a room, a Knee Kicker is used to set the carpet. Often some installers use
this kicker to stretch the carpet.
that is not accepted in carpet industry. Carpets "MUST" be stretched with
a power stretcher
to obtain proper tension. When a knee kicker is placed on the carpet, its
nails penetrate in the backings of the carpet. Then force is applied in
the back of the kicker by hitting the knee to
move the carpet in place.
If the nails of the knee kicker are not
properly penetrated in the backing, it will caused the yarn to pull out from the
primary backing. In severe conditions, primary backing is shredded and
this causes the yarn to escape from the backing. Usually thee damages are
located along the perimeter. Sometimes, it may be found along the seams.
In case when the primary backing is not damaged, the pulled yarn can be repaired
by re-burling process. In case of shredding of primary backing, condition
can be corrected by pile grafting method.
